Why Marina entrances are silting ?
The silting of the marina entrances on the Israeli East Med. coast, is due to the predominant anti-clockwise current, which flow in this area from South to North. This current carries the sand sediments from the sandy coasts of North Sinai along the shores. As soon as the current with the sand sediments hit upon an obstacle (breakwater) the sand will accumulate at the south part of obstacle.
The "empty" current continues to flow along the breakwater and creates a circulation at it's North part, causing shore corrosion which deposits the sand to the entrance of the marina.
According to Mr. Shmuely's theory, if arched breakwaters with a Western entrance would be constructed, it would prevent the sediments accumulation and the silt of marina entrances.
