World and local news !
The famous "America's Cup" race will be held in New Zealand, March 2003.

... and Cup Yacht loses keel !
America's Cup yacht is lying on its side in the Hauraki Gulf off Auckland this afternoon. The Oracle Racing syndicate has lost the keel off its yacht. The yacht had been used by the AmericaOne syndicate in the last America's Cup campaign.
Emergency services are rushing to the aid of the syndicate, which features top New Zealand sailor Chris Dickson and former AmericaOne skipper Paul Cayard. Oracle Racing is headed by American billionaire Larry Ellison.
Volvo Ocean Race former Whitbread
On the other hand, time is running out for Volvo Ocean Race, with less than 10 months to the start of the famous round the world race, which is scheduled for 23 September 2001. By now there are only 6 yachts registered to the race. To be fair, the circumstances have conspired against the organizers. The next America's Cup taking place in 2003, a year earlier than anticipated has put a set-back to the Volvo race. The predicted entries of the America's Cup who were to use the event as training in the way Paul Cayard did four years ago, have not materialized. Further, many of the top crew and navigators are already committed to the America's Cup 2003 campaigns.
Optimist European Championship
The event should take place in Israel - Sdot Yam in August 2001. The conflict with the Palestinians in our area is of a great concern to the Israeli organizers.
Hopefully the situation will clear up soon.
