VENDEE GLOBE - New speed record !
Yves Parlier, the skipper of Aquitaine Innovation announced that he had established a new single-handed speed record for monohull. He reckoned to have covered 419 miles in 24 hours between the 3-4 December 2000. This is an incredible average speed of
17.45 Knots. It is an improvement by nearly a knot to the previous record of 396.5 miles in 24 hours, average 16.52 Knots, held by Mark Thiercelin established also in a single-handed round the world race 2 years ago.
Meanwhile the fleet leaders are well into the Roaring Forties and experiencing furious downwind pace in a 25-30 knots of Westerly wind.
