NAVTEX
A yacht equipped with this dedicated receiver may receive on 518 kHz comprehensive weather reports (displayed on screen or by printout) . The system is in operation through out the Mediterranean and transmitted by several radio stations, such as: Cyprus-Trodos, Egypt-Alexandria, Turkey- Antalya, Greece-Iraklion, Israel-Haifa.
Haifa Radio transmits the forecast 6 times per 24 hrs. The forecast is up dated twice a day, at 04:20 utc and 16:20 utc. The NAVTEX receiver should be tuned to zone P.

VHF - WEATHER FORECAST
As mentioned before "Haifa Radio" is transmitting the weather forecast by means of the NAVTEX. Though, in cases of urgency the weather forecast might be provided on special request, contacting on VHF channel 16, the actual transmission will be transferred to the working frequency channel 25. The report will relate to weather areas: Crusade, Delta, Taurus (Note map above). Important note ! Due to the very high antenna on Mount Carmel and powerful transmitter, Haifa Radio might be received at an exceptionally long range (approx.50 miles) from the Israeli coast.

MARINAS - VHF RADIO WATCH
All major marinas in Cyprus, Israel, Greece, Turkey and Israel (Note marinas chapter), are keeping constant VHF watch on channel 16 and might provide weather forecasts on special request.

VHF Radio and Cellular Phone Communication & Emergency Services -Israeli Coast.
In addition to the VHF Radio Services operated by the marinas and harbors
(see details in relevant section). The following radio services are available.

Israeli Navy
Keeping VHF Radio watch on the East Mediterranean and Red Sea. Initial contact on channel 16. Transferred to channel 10, 11 or 12 according to Navy instruction. Call sign: "ISRAELI NAVY".

Haifa Radio (4XO)
Marine Radio Station at the service of all shipping and yachts. The station is operating 24 Hrs on all marine frequencies. Keeping watch on VHF channel 16. Working channels VHF 24, 25 and 26. Call sign: "HAIFA RADIO".

Fishery Radio (4XT)
At the service of the Israeli Fishing Fleet. Keeping radio watch on VHF
channel 67. Yachts may receive assistance only in emergency. The station is closed during winter gales or during holidays when all fishing vessels are at port. Call sign: "FOUR-X-T".

Cellular (Mobil Phone) Communication Services.
In case of emergency, Yachts equipped with a mobil phone may establish contact with the following authorities and services. The prefix for Israel is: 972
