The EMYR enhances the peace !
31 Yachts with more than 100 crewmembers participants of the E.M.Y.R. - Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally - arrived on 4th. June 2002 to Israel directly from Syria and Lebanon. The extraordinary sailing campaign may provide a sample for positive regional collaboration between the Middle East Nations and may serve as message that will raise the hope for peace in the area. The EMYR sailors proved it !!!
The arrival of such a large group of Sailors-Tourists during such troubled period for Israel and it's Neighbors is a reverence to the organizer and the live spirit of the Rally,
Mr. Hasan Kacmaz, the veteran manager of Park Kemer Marina and the chairman The of the Turkish Marinas Association, acting together with an International Yacht Committee.
The EMYR started in Istanbul and is circling the East Med. basin, visiting: Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Egypt. In each country the fleet is visiting in the major Marinas receiving grand welcome reception.
The first stop in Israel is in the new Haifa-Kishon Marina and as usually receiving warm welcome by the members of Carmel Club headed by Ex-Admiral Shabtay Levy the commodore of the club. The Municipality of Haifa and it's mayor Mr. Amram Mitzna together with The Ministry of Tourism, are providing the generous hospitality to the visiting yachtsman.
Next stops of the Rally in Israel will be in the Marinas of Hezliya and Ashkelon where grand reception parties are expected.
