The "Race" around the world !

After 62 days, 6 hours and 56 minutes, the huge catamaran - Club Med, crossed the finishing line of the Race around the world in Barcelona - Spain. The total distance covered by the Club Med. on this inaugural running of The Race was 27.408 nautical miles, at an average speed of 18.3 knots.

Among their outstanding feats, Club Med. set a new world record for the distance sailed in 24 hours when she covered 655.2 miles, this makes an average speed of 27.3 knots !!!

As we reported, the fleet formed by 6 maxi-catamarans, started on 31 December 2000 from Barcelona on their round the world navigation. On their route they crossed three oceans, the Atlantic, the Indian and the Pacific, passing by the famous three capes: Good Hope (South Africa), Leeuwin (Australia) and finally Horn (South America).
